Embark on a journey with “Sail Istria,” a thoughtfully designed 2-day sailing course tailored for beginners.

This unique experience seamlessly combines hands-on sailing education with the exploration of Istria’s most picturesque locales. Set sail from the historical city of Pula and discover the art of sailing against the backdrop of the Croatia’s stunning coastline.

Our course is not merely about learning; it’s about living the sailing lifestyle, embracing the sea’s challenges, and uncovering the beauty of Istria.

Day One: Pula-Cape Kamenjak-Pula

Our journey starts in the ancient city of Pula, where Roman and Venetian architecture meets the Adriatic Sea. Here, you’ll be introduced to your sailboat, an up to 35ft vessel perfect for beginners and group. Also, you will meet your experienced skipper who will guide you through this course.

The first day is dedicated to basics: understanding the parts of the boat, sail dynamics, and essential safety procedures. As we make our way towards Cape Kamenjak, you’ll learn to hoist sails and steer, guided by the wind’s direction and strength. This session includes practical exercises in sail trimming and basic navigation, ensuring you get a real feel of sailing.

Upon reaching Cape Kamenjak, renowned for its wild beauty and clear waters, we’ll anchor for you to explore the area’s beauties, providing a perfect blend of learning and leisure. The day concludes with a return to Pula where you will spend a night in one of city’s apartments.

Day Two: Pula-Rovinj-Vrsar

Next morning, we will embark towards the town of Rovinj, one of the most beautiful cities in the Adriatic. Today’s focus shifts to advanced maneuvering techniques, including tacking and gybing, essential for changing direction with the wind. You’ll engage in hands-on practice, understanding the roles of each crew member during these maneuvers and mastering collision avoidance rules at sea.

Rovinj awaits with its charming architecture and stunning waterfront, offering free time to explore its narrow streets and colourful buildings. Afterwards, we will continue sailing to Vrsar. There, we will practice docking and mooring in the picturesque marina, followed by an overnight stay in the apartment.

The second day is rich in navigation lessons, as you learn to read marine charts and use a compass, enriching your sailing knowledge alongside the exploration of Istria’s coastal towns.

Day Three: Vrsar-Lim Fjord-National Park Brijuni-Pula

Our final day is a celebration of sailing and natural beauty. We will depart from Vrsar and head towards the tranquil Lim Fjord. Here, the focus is on refining your sailing skills in a serene environment, perfect for practicing precise boat handling and navigation in narrow natural passages.

The journey leads us to the famous National Park Brijuni, an archipelago known for its historical significance, archeological findings and diverse animal life. As we navigate around Brijuni, you’ll get to apply all the skills you’ve learned, from navigation to sail management. The course concludes with a diploma ceremony back in Pula, celebrating your successful completion and newfound sailing skills.
