Summary
Travel Itinerary
Weekend Sailing in Istria is a three-day active sailing program along the western coast of Istria, departing from Pula. Upon arrival, you will meet the skipper, settle into the sailboat, and begin with an introductory briefing. On board, you will be welcomed with local Istrian Malvasia, Teranino, and soft drinks.Day 1: Pula – Cape Kamenjak – Pula
The first day begins with a sail from Pula toward Cape Kamenjak and the nearby islets of Ceja, Levan, and Fenera. Those who wish can take the helm and help with the sails, while others can relax on deck and enjoy the company. At Cape Kamenjak, you can use your free time to explore the area by bicycle or on foot. The day concludes with a return to Pula at sunset.Day 2: Pula – Brijuni/Fažana – Rovinj
After breakfast, you will set sail from Pula towards Rovinj. Along the way, the group can choose between a visit to Brijuni National Park (entrance fee not included) or a stop in Fažana with panoramic views of the Brijuni archipelago. Upon arrival in Rovinj, you will have free time to explore the town at your own pace. For those interested, the skipper can also arrange an evening sail with panoramic views of Rovinj.
Day 3: Rovinj – Lim Channel – Pula
On the third day, you will sail through the Lim Bay, a unique sea inlet surrounded by steep, forested cliffs. Here, you will stop for lunch and enjoy fresh shellfish and fish. The final leg of the sailing trip takes you back to Pula, where you will arrive in the afternoon. Throughout the journey, you can take an active part in sailing or simply relax and stop for a swim along the way.
Pula
Start of the Tour (Friday)
The gathering takes place on Friday morning at Marina Veruda in Pula, where the skipper welcomes you aboard the sailboat. On deck, you will already find a selection of cold platters, Istrian Malvasia, Teranino, and soft drinks.
After getting familiar with the boat, the skipper holds a safety briefing, explains how to use the onboard equipment, and outlines the sailing plan for the next three days. You will also receive an overview of opportunities to actively participate in sailing—every activity is adapted to the group’s preferences and experience level.
Once preparations are complete and the group is ready, the boat departs from Pula toward Cape Kamenjak and the surrounding islets, marking the beginning of a three-day weekend sailing experience in Istria. Three days of active sailing, hidden coves, and the Istrian coastline as most people never get to see it.
Cape Kamenjak
Day 1: Pula – Cape Kamenjak & islets – Pula
The day begins with departure from Pula heading south. From the very start, you can actively participate in sailing—helping the skipper with the course and sails—or simply relax on deck while the crew gets into the rhythm of the boat.
You sail along the cliffs toward Cape Kamenjak, where you anchor in a sheltered bay. Those who wish can explore Kamenjak by bicycle, with discounted rental available through a partner provider. On the return route, you visit the islets of Ceja, Levan, or Fenera.
On one of the islets, you stop for a break where you can enjoy coffee, swim, try SUP, or go snorkeling. All equipment is included, and on board you are always served Istrian Malvasia and Teranino.
The return sail to Pula follows the sunset. Relax with music on deck or catch the last rays of sun at the bow. Upon arrival in Pula, the skipper guides you to your accommodation, and the rest of the evening is yours.
Brijuni and Rovinj
Day 2: Pula – Brijuni/Fažana – Rovinj
The second day begins with departure north, with Rovinj as the final destination. During the sail, you can improve your sailing skills by practicing basic maneuvers or simply enjoy the coastal views. The skipper adjusts the pace and activities to the group.
Along the way, the group decides between a visit to Brijuni National Park (entrance fee not included) or a stop in Fažana, a small fishing town with views of the Brijuni archipelago. If conditions allow, there is also a swimming stop before continuing toward Rovinj.
After docking in Rovinj, your time is free. Explore the narrow stone streets of the old town, visit the Church of St. Euphemia with its panoramic views of the open sea, or relax on a waterfront terrace with a glass of Istrian wine. Rovinj is best experienced without a fixed plan, in good company.
The evening is free for your own plans—from local taverns to charming souvenir shops and bars. For those who prefer not to stay ashore, the skipper can organize an evening sail at sunset with panoramic views of Rovinj from the sea.
Lim Channel
Day 3: Rovinj – Lim Channel – Pula
The final day of the Weekend Sailing trip begins with departure from Rovinj toward the Lim Bay. Sailing through the narrow sea inlet, surrounded by steep, forested cliffs, reveals a panorama unique to Istria. Tall limestone walls, dense Mediterranean pine forest, and turquoise water create a landscape completely different from the previous two days.
In Lim Bay, you stop for lunch at one of the restaurants known for fresh mussels, clams, and fish. With prior notice, traditional “peka” dishes can also be arranged. After lunch, you raise the sails and continue toward Pula.
The sail back to Pula is perfect for relaxing, taking final photos, and reflecting on three days spent at sea. You can spend the last miles at the helm or stop for a swim along the way. Arrival at Marina Veruda in the afternoon marks the end of the weekend sailing experience in Istria.
